2018 Used Device Gift Guide
As the holiday season is rounding the corner, the holiday gift guides begin to show up all over the place. And when it comes to the latest and greatest tech gadgets, they can usually break the bank and spending upwards of $2,000 isn’t extremely practical for gifts. With these high costs of brand new gadgets, buying used technology is your best bet this holiday season and with that, we’re going to tell you what are the best used gadgets to buy this holiday season.
The iPhone 7 is the tenth generation of the iPhone and was released to the general public in 2016 but still runs plenty quick and is nearly indistinguishable from the iPhone 8 in most ways. It varies in storage sizes of 16, 32, 64, and 128 gigabytes and comes in matte black, jet black, silver, gold, and rose gold colors. The phone sports a quad-core system-on-chip with great graphics performance which is perfect for streaming and running multiple apps on your phone. The iPhone 7 also has a clean 12 megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization that takes clear and high-quality photos. One of the greatest strengths I believe the iPhone 7 has is its resistance to water and dust - although this doesn’t make the phone completely waterproof and dust proof, it creates a strong barrier between the interior and exterior hardware. With the price around $500 for 32GB of storage, the iPhone 7 is a great upgrade from your current phone.
iPad Air 2
The iPad Air 2 It was released on October 22, 2014 and was discontinued in 2017 with the release of the next generation of iPads. This tablet is fast, light, and super sleek in quality and design. The battery life is long lasting at 10 hours and is on the fence of being a device that you can replace your computer with. The internal hardware is powerful and fast and shows no signs of lag as the device gets older. If streaming online is your thing, this is a must buy for binge watching in bed as it displays great reduction in reflection and has improved color / contrast ratio. The internal speaker is also quite impressive as it gives off a rich sound with good base. This is one of those devices that is perfect for anyone and everyone, no matter how you plan to use it. At the lower range of $250, the iPad Air 2 is a perfect little gift for anyone looking to upgrade their gadgets.
2015 MacBook Pro Retina
The 2015 MacBook Pro Retina is definitely one of the best - if not the best - used laptop right now. This was the last model before a huge chunk of modifications were made to the MacBook Pro series which made them pricier for consumers. This comes with a fourth-generation Core i7 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to a 1TB SSD which will be handle most workloads. This MacBook Pro is the perfect laptop for content creation because it can easily handle the power of programs such as Photoshop or Premier Pro as well as running other programs in the background simultaneously (I can speak from personal experience on this one). It comes well equipped on the outside with 2x Thunderbolt 2 Display Ports, 2x USB 3 ports, HDMI port, and an SD Card slot which is all great for hooking up your MacBook to larger display monitors with little-to-no lag. The battery is decent with a maximum hold of a little over 9 hours and it comes in 13” and 15”, respectively. If you are looking for a machine to last your college career or create content on, this is the ultimate used laptop that will do exactly what you need it to do.
Apple Watch Series 2
The final device is more of an accessory to your other devices but it’s definitely nothing short of amazing. The Series 2 Apple Watch offers GPS capabilities, Wi-Fi, and is waterproof up to 50 meters. Using the built-in GPS and Wi-Fi, it records precise distance, pace and speed for outdoor workouts such as walking, running or cycling, without needing to take an iPhone. It comes in 3 different materials: aluminum, stainless steel, and ceramic and is available in gold, rose gold, silver or space gray aluminum, or silver or space black stainless steel cases paired with a wide variety of bands. Prices range from $150 to $300 depending on the technical specifics of the device but this is the perfect addition to any gadget geek in your life.
